Executive Accounting Program
Competing in today's business world depends highly on a business' foundation of accounting. Accounting is a necessary key to the success of any organization, and the Executive Accounting Program (EAP) gives individuals a chance to become a part of the profession without spending four years to acquire an accounting degree.
The Executive Accounting Program offered by the School of Accountancy provides an opportunity for those who have the desire to enter the accounting profession, but do not have the necessary background. After taking courses over a six months period, students will have a solid accounting foundation and have the necessary accounting credits to sit for the State of Hawai’i’s CPA exam.
The program welcomes professionals, graduates from local and national universities, as well as international students. New licensing requirements for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) necessitates a total of 150 college credit hours, and graduates who do not have the required number of hours can
use the credit hours earned from the EAP program toward this
deficiency.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
Applicants must have an undergraduate degree, although it is not
necessary that it be in accounting.
The School of Accountancy administers the program (in cooperation with the Outreach College) and courses are taught in English. Consequently, students must have
the appropriate English skills in order to take these classes (a minimum of 550 on the TOEFL test is required for international students from countries in which the language of instruction is other than English).
COURSES OFFERED
Twenty-four (24) credit hours of accounting courses will be offered during a six-month period. These courses are as follows:
TIMING OF THE PROGRAM
Courses will run from late June through late December. However,
the School of Accountancy reserves the right to cancel the program
if there is not an appropriate number of applicants. The application
deadline is April 1st.
CLASS TIMES
The classes are offered in a mix of in-person and Internet delivery. Students are required to have access to the Internet to be able to
enroll in the program. Daily coursework is generally assigned,
including readings, viewing of lectures on the internet, homework
and quizzes. The live classes are held primarily on the weekends
and are primarily used to clarify any questions regarding the
previous week's assignments. These sessions are optional. Exams are
held on various days during the week and may be administered in
person. For students on the neighbor islands, accommodations are
made for you to take the exam at one of the community colleges
during their regular business hours. Due to the accelerated nature of the program, it is strongly recommended that students refrain from working while participating in the EAP.
TUITION AND FEES
The tuition for the program will be no more than the amount
established by the Outreach College for Masters' of Accounting
students on a per-credit basis. Each student will be required to make the full payment
of their total tuition at least one month prior to the start of the program. Books, living accommodations and health insurance are the students’ responsibilities.
