BBA in Accounting

The School offers a Bachelor of Business Administration degree (BBA) with a major in Accounting. Approximately two of the four years of University work are spent in meeting general education requirements, one year is devoted to a broad business education, and one year is devoted to a concentration in Accounting.

In order to obtain a Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting degree, a student must be admitted into the Shidler College of Business.

Once admitted, the following requirements must be completed before graduation.

OVERVIEW OF GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Fulfill the General Education Core requirements.
  • Completion of 124 non-repeated credit hours.
    • 30 of which must be earned at UH Manoa to fulfill residency requirements
    • 24 of the credits must be earned in Shidler College of Business upper division business courses and 9 credits must be earned in the Shidler College of Business business major AFTER official admission to Shidler College of Business
  • Major Requirements:
    • ACC 305 Management Accounting
    • ACC 321 Intermediate Financial Accounting I
    • ACC 323 Intermediate Financial Accounting II
    • ACC 401 Federal Income Taxation
    • ACC 409 Accounting Information Systems
    • ACC 418 Auditing
    • TWO of the following for those who intend to become a CPA in the state of Hawai‘i:
    • Business Requirements
      • BLAW 200 Legal Environment of Business
      • BUS 310 Statistical Analysis for Business Decisions
      • BUS 311 Information Systems for Global Business Environment
      • BUS 312 Principles of Marketing
      • BUS 313 Economic and Financial Environment of Global Business
      • BUS 314 Business Finance
      • BUS 315 Global Management and Organizational Behavior
      • BUS 345 Strategic Management
      • ONE of the following business communication courses:
        • BUS 209 Written Communication in Business
        • ENG 209 Business Writing
        • ENG 306 Argumentative Writing I
        • ENG 307 Rhetoric, Composition, and Computers
      • ONE upper divison International Business course from Approved List found in the Shidler College of Business Office of Student Academic Services
      • 15 credits of Non-Introductory Elective courses or minor (beyond the introductory level)
        • No more than two courses may be 200-level courses; any 200-level courses used for this requirement must have a 100-level prerequisite (e.g. JPN 201-202)
        • At least three courses must be 300 or 400-level courses
        • No more than two courses can be business courses, but may not be in one's major (with the exceptions of the Speech requirement for the ACC major)
        • ENG 250-257 may NOT be used to satisfy any of these electives
        • Courses may be taken CR/NC, if not used to fulfill ANY other requirement, including Focus and Hawaiian/Second Language
        • Courses toward a minor may be used to satisfy these electives (NOTE: No courses used toward a minor may be used toward an academic major)
        • No more than three credits of BUS 395 (Internship) may be used to satisfy these electives
        • No courses (with the exception of language 201 and 202) used to fulfill the General Education Core may satisfy these electives
    • Grades:
      • Minimum Cumulative Grade-Point Ratio (GPR) of 2.0.
      • Minimum Busines Core and Major GPR of 2.0 with no grade below C-.
      • General Education Core courses may not receive a grade of D- or lower.
