hibiscus Selection Criteria:
This award is presented to recognize students whose efforts in the field of speech/communication have been meritorious. These contributions should be above and beyond course requirements. Foremost, the award recognizes academic excellence. Additionally, the award acknowledges notable contributions to speech/communication research [leading to a convention paper(s) and/or publication(s)] and/or admirable community/university service.
hibiscus Eligibility:
A student is eligible for the The Department of Speech Award if the student is a full-time student at UHM, majoring in Speech, regardless of undergraduate class standing (freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior). A minimum 3.5 GPA in Speech and a minimum 3.2 GPA overall is required.
hibiscus Award:
Each recipient has her or his name placed on a permanent plaque displayed in the office of the Speech Department. The recipient receives $100.00 cash award.
hibiscus Selection Procedures:
Faculty members in the Department of Speech will submit a Nomination Form for each student who appears to meet the requirements for this award. Each nominee will be asked to complete and submit a Nominee Information Form (see below). The committee will determine which nominee(s) best meets all criteria. In the event the committee determines that no nominee clearly meets the criteria, no award will be granted for that year.

The chair of the Awards Committee shall notify the nominee(s) of the Committee's decision within three weeks of the Nominee Information Form deadline.
