How to Apply for a
Master of Arts Degree (M.A.) in Speech


Step 1: Complete the University of Hawai‘i Graduate Division Requirements

1. Review the Admission and Degree Requirements, Application Deadlines, and Department of Speech program.

3. Make sure that you meet all of the current Graduate Program Criteria & Requirements

2. Complete the University of Hawai‘i Graduate Admissions Application Form and submit it to:

University of Hawai‘i at Manoa
Graduate Admissions Office
2540 Maile Way, Spalding 354
Honolulu, HI 96822
(Adobe Acrobat needed to view form)

Step 2: Complete the Department of Speech Requirements

1. Have your GRE scores sent to the Department of Speech Graduate Chair.

2. Write a letter to the Department of Speech Graduate Chair expressing your interest in the graduate program (If you are seeking a graduate teaching assistantship, indicate this request in your letter and discuss your teaching aspirations and capabilities.)

3. Have three letters of recommendation sent to the Department of Speech Graduate Chair, preferably written by professors with whom you have studied.

a. Complete, print, and sign three copies of the Recommendation Form for Graduate Program in Speech and provide one form to each of the individuals who will be writing you a letter of recommendation. (Adobe Acrobat needed to view form)

b.Writers of letters of recommendation should comment on your preparation and potential for success in graduate school.

c. If you wish to be considered for a graduate teaching assistantship (GTA), writers of your letters of reference should also comment on your teaching potential.
