Speech Communication Society

Welcome to the Speech Communication Society's Website. We encourage you to take a look around at our organization and the people who run it. We hope you like what you see, so relax and stay a while. Here you will find everything you need to know about our club. From our social events to professional mixers, you will see what makes this new organization an emerging success.

Originally established during the Fall 2001 semester, the Speech Communication Society is an organization created by students to form a network between majors, minors, the faculty, and the community in the interests of the communication field. Members pledge to fulfill the social, career/academic, and service needs of the speech community at the University of Hawai`i. Members of the Society will increase their visibility in relation to the Department of Speech, fellow peers, and the community. If you are interested in learning more about our organization, please feel free to email us at scs@hawaii.edu. We look forward to adding another builder to the team. Help us “Bridge the Gap."

UH Debate and Forensics Club

"Forensics" is a word rooted in the Western world's classical experience. The Greeks organized contests for speakers that developed and recognized the abilities their society felt central to democracy. These exercises acquired the title "forensics," derived from Latin and and closely related to the word forum. The UH Debate and Forensics Club is undergirded by the principle of seeking greater understanding of the history and practice of reasoned discourse as a sound basis for public involvement.
UHDFC conducts forensics activities including Parliamentary Debate, CEDA Debate (Cross-examination research based debate), Lincoln-Douglas Debate (one on one), Prose Interpretation of Literature, Poetry Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation of Literature, Duo Interpretation of Literature, Program of Oral Interpretation, Extemporaneous Speaking, Communication Analysis, Impromptu Speaking, Persuasive Speaking, Informative Speaking, and Speaking to Entertain.
