Index to the biomedical journal literature from the National Library of Medicine.  Available for searching for free from NLM as well as a range of other vendors.  Includes journal citations with abstracts for most citations. Several full text links available.

Biological Abstracts via Hamilton Library

A basic research tool for biological and biomedical sciences. Includes full bibliographic citations and current life science abstracts derived from approximately 7,000 biological and biomedical journals from over ninety countries.

EBSCOHost via Hamilton Library Search Academic Search Premier, Health Source Nursing/Academic, and other databases. Includes 4000+ full-text journals; consider restricting to scholarly peer-reviewed journals and JSTOR.
Science Direct via Hamilton Library Access over 1200 full-text scientific, technical, & medical peer-reviewed journals.
Web of Science 1980-present, via Hamilton Library   A multidisciplinary index covering the journal literature of the sciences (Science Citation Index) as well as the Social Sciences Citation Index and the Arts & Humanities Citation Index. Search by cited author, cited work, title word, journal title, author name and author affiliation.
NLM Gateway  A single Web interface that searches multiple NLM retrieval systems.
ePOI, Pathways to Online Information Use ePOI to browse or search through the extensive biomedical electronic resource collections of UH Manoa Library and Hawaii Medical Library simultaneously. This includes subscription-based and free e-journals, e-books, databases, and websites.
 
Specialized Health Sciences Databases

Cancernet

Includes access to PDQ (latest recommendations for cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment and Cancerlit database. Free from the National Cancer Institute.

HealthSource Nursing/Academic Edition via Hamilton Library Provides nearly 540 scholarly full-text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Also featured are abstracts and indexing for over 570 journals.
Nusing and Allied Health (CINAHL) via Hamilton Library Nursing & Allied Health is the online equivalent of CINAHL, the Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature. It provides access to virtually all English language nursing journals, publications from the American Nurses' Association and the National League of Nursing, and primary journals from 13 allied health disciplines.
Popline  Family planning, population law and policy, and primary health care, including maternal/child health in developing countries. Free via Johns Hopkins University
Toxnet Computerized collection of files on toxicology, hazardous chemicals and related areas--includes some full text files, Toxline database. Free via the National Library of Medicine
HaPI (Health & Psychosocial Instruments) via OVID via Hawaii Medical Library, members only Health and Psychosocial Instruments provides ready access to information on measurement instruments (i.e., questionnaires, interview schedules, checklists, index measures, coding schemes/ manuals, rating scales, projective techniques, vignettes/scenarios, tests) in the health fields, psychosocial sciences, organizational behavior, and library and information science.

Health Source Consumer Edition via Hamilton Library

Access to nearly 300 full text consumer health periodicals; indexing and abstracts for nearly 300 periodicals; searchable full text for nearly 1,200 health-related pamphlets; 20 health reference books; 7,000 Clinical Reference Systems reports (in English and Spanish); and Stedman's Medical Dictionary.

WebMD Health

Consumers can access health and wellness news, support communities, interactive health management tools and more. Online communities and special events allow consumers to participate in real-time discussions with experts and with other people who share similar health conditions or concerns.

Electronic publication designed to supply high quality evidence to inform people providing and receiving care, and those responsible for research, teaching, funding and administration at all levels.

DARE (Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness)

Full-text, quality assessed reviews. Note: the Ovid version also simultaneously searches ACP Journal Club (ACP), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (formerly Cochrane Controlled Trials Register-CCTR), Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR), along with the Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects (DARE).
TRIP Database (TRIP--Turning Research into Practice)

Meta-search engine that searches across 61 sites of high-quality medical information.

  • Results are sorted by Evidence Based Links (direct and indirect); peer-reviewed journal articles; guidelines.
  • Searches words in the titles only; must search on synonyms
  • Only portion of the database is free effective 7/1/03

Academic Search Premier via Hamilton Library Provides full text for 3,200+ scholarly publications covering academic areas of study including social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, and ethnic studies. Consider restricting to scholarly peer-reviewed journals.
LexisNexis Academic via Hamilton Library Full text articles back more than 20 years from over 5600 publications. Use it to find general news; business and financial information including accounting, auditing and taxation; federal, state and international legal materials; medical and health information and general reference sources. Also links to LexisNexis Statistical, LexisNexis Congressional databases.
Web of Science via Hamilton Library 1980-present. Social Sciences 
ABI/Inform Global via Hamilton Library Business and management database covering advertising, marketing, economics, human resources, finance, taxation, computers, and more. Indexes 1,520 journals with full-text for 780+ journals.

ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) via Hamilton Library

Provides access to information from journals included in the Current Index of Journals in Education and Resources in Education Index. ERIC provides some full text along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from educational and education-related journals.
  • Documents identified as ED####### may be available online (linked to the database record), or they may be available on microfiche at Hamilton Library.
Population Index on the WEB, 1986-2000  Published since 1935, primary referenceto the world's population literature; presents an annotated bibliography of recently published books, journal articles, working papers, and other materials on population topics. FREE.
PsycINFO via Hamilton Library Provides citations and abstracts of international journal articles in psychology and related disciplines. It covers over 1,300 journals, representing professional and scientific literature from over 50 countries. 1887-present.
Social Services Abstracts via Hamilton Library Covers current research (1585 journals) focused on social work, human services, social welfare, social policy and community development. 1980-present. 
Sociological Abstracts via Hamilton Library Literature of sociology from 2,000 journals published worldwide. It includes information published in Sociological Abstracts since 1963, citations to dissertations added to the database since 1986.
Social Work Abstracts via Hamilton Library 1977 to the present; contains records from social work and other related journals on topics such as homelessness, AIDS, child and family welfare, aging, substance abuse, legislation, community organization, and more.
