The Hawaii Coral Reef Initiative (HCRI) has gotten more involved in participating in (or, organizing) community events.  These efforts are consistent with the US Coral Reef Task Force’s Coral Reef Education and Outreach Strategic Plan and the report from the Water and Air Quality Working Group.  They encourage local and regional coral reef education and outreach programs.  Here is a selected list of recent efforts.

  • Waikiki Aquarium 100th Anniversary - Family Education Event (March 2005)

  • Hosted Cooperative learning sessions for Pre-K to 3rd grade students (summer 2005 through summer 2006
  • Project staff coordinated the Hawaii Kai alien algae clean-up and restoration of seagrasses (October 2005)

  • Recognition award from the U.S. Coral Reef Task Force for their partnership efforts with the Coral Reef Outreach Network (November 2005)
