Long ago & far away in uh, 2003...the SSW Graduate Student Organization was requested to organize a fund raising event that was family oriented, and alcohol-free. In 2004, one of our MSW students had his family home destroyed on New Year's Eve by fireworks purposely thrown into the house (luckily no one was home at the time). So, the GSO & BSWO combined these 2 events into the 1st 'Ohana Day Celebration that raised approx. $2,000 for the student's family and also celebrated our families ('ohana, calabash and hanai). The GSO and BSWO intend to continue this annual event to provide shared quality time with each other & our special somebodies! |
