The Hawai`i Child Welfare Education Collaboration (HCWEC)
HCWEC-DE is a collaborative effort between the University of Hawai`i Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work and the Hawai`i State Department of Human Services. The two primary aims of this effort are to encourage current Department of Human Service employees to return to school to pursue a MSW degree and to encourage others entering the MSW program to commit to public child welfare as a career choice.
The three-year distance education program is only for current Department of Human Services employees who will continue to work full time while attending school. Tuition, fees, book related expenses and travel for orientation will be reimbursed for students in the program. Students in the HCWEC-DE Program will then be required to work for the Department of Human Services in public child welfare for two years post graduation.
The program is made possible with federal funds from the Title IV-E Child Welfare Training Grant. More information can be obtained by calling the HCWEC office at (808) 956-8089.
The HCWEC DE MSW Option is currently only available
to full-time DHS staff members in permanent positions.
