Hawai‘i has one of the highest rates of tuberculosis in the nation. In 2004, Hawai‘i reported 9.2 cases of TB per 100,000 population (the national rate is 4.9 cases per 100,000 population).  Because mentors will be working directly with young adults, they are required to take a TB test before being matched with a mentee.
