The equation on the right is a perfectly valid starting equation. In this solution we will use the one on the left instead. Using words for variables is convenient. It avoids having to recall what various letters like x, y and z stand for in a problem solution that is a bit complicated. Symbols, instead of words, can of course be used when it is convenient to do so.
