Information Technology Services is offering the following workshops on the University of Hawaii, Manoa campus. The workshops will be held in Keller 204. If you are interested in attending, register online at

Introduction to Excel 2010
October 5 (Wed)
11:00am – 12:00pm (noon)

Learn the fundamental aspects of Excel 2010 in this hands-on workshop. Work with data, get around in a basic Excel workbook, and learn how to sort data and create Sparklines. Presented by Ryan McCalla.

Introduction to Word 2010
October 7 (Fri)
8:30am – 10:00am

This hands-on training session is designed for users who are new to Microsoft Word 2010 for Windows. Attendees do not require any experience using older versions of Microsoft Word but should feel comfortable using the Windows operating system. Presented by Deanna Pasternak.


Intermediate Word 2010
October 11 (Tue)
9:00am – 11:00am

This workshop covers what’s new, compatibility, Hawaiian diacritics, themes, building blocks, styles, templates, mail merge, and tables. Participants will be contacted to submit topics/problems. Presented by Jocelyn Kasamoto.

Introduction to PowerPoint 2010
October 12 (Wed)
11:00am - 12:00pm (noon)

This course is designed for users who are new to Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 for Windows. Experience using older versions of Microsoft PowerPoint is not required but participants should feel comfortable using the Windows operating system. Presented by Mike Wu.

Introduction to Mac OS 10.6
October 25 (Tue)
1:30pm - 3:00pm

This workshop covers general OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) topics. It will be assumed that all participants have access or are using a Macintosh with OS 10.6. Attendees will learn how to customize settings, set up file sharing (including Windows file sharing), set up Hawaiian diacritics, connect to the UH wireless network, and set up user accounts. Time permitting, some of the new features in Mac OS 10.7 (Lion) may also be briefly discussed. Presented by Teresa Sakata.

- Participants are encouraged to bring their questions to class.
- Please note that this is not a hands-on workshop; participants may bring their laptops if they wish.


Introduction to LISTSERV
October 26 (Wed)
11:00am - 12:00pm (noon)

In this workshop, participants will learn how to manage and maintain a LISTSERV, and will gain a thorough understanding on the basics of using it. The session is intended for new LISTSERV owners. Presented by Justin Fung.

- It is strongly recommended that participants have access to an existing LISTSERV as an owner.


Intermediate Excel 2010
October 28 (Fri)
9:00am - 11:00am

This hands-on workshop builds upon the skills and concepts taught in the "Introduction to Excel 2010" workshop (conducted on October 5). Participants will learn how to create simple formulas and functions that can be used as the basis for building more advanced formulas and functions. They will then be taken to the next step of creating and editing links. Finally, participants will learn Excel's advanced formatting options. Presented by Byron Watanabe.
