Overview of the Resources tool

The Resources tool is an online file storage tool that your instructor may use to make files available to you. The Resources tool can organize files using folders. Consult your instructor if you have trouble finding a resource. Below is an example of what the Resources tool looks like.

Finding the Resources tool

First you will need to find the Resources tool. Keep in mind your instructor may change the name of the resources tool however the icon will always appear as a folder.

Finding a file in the Resources tool

Once you find the Resources tool you will need to find the file you wish to download. The Resources tool is organized into files and folders. Files can be stored in folders.

If a folder has neither a "+" or a "-" then it is empty and clicking it will show no files.
Folders that have content and are "closed" will have a "+" sign indicating there is content inside.
A folder that is "open" will have a "-" sign indicating you can collapse it to hide those files inside.

Downloading a File from the Resources tool

Once you find your file you can download it one of two ways. You can click on the file and your browser will either open the file or prompt you to save it. What your browser does will vary based on your browser preferences. Most browsers will save to a particular location which is typically a 'download' folder on your computer.

If you are having trouble finding a file once you click on it you should use the alternative method which involves using the right-click.

Downloading a File using the right click method

An alternative method that always allows you to choose where you file is downloaded is to use the right-click method. This requires you to use the right-click button on your mouse.

NOTE FOR TOUCH PAD USERS: If you are using a touch pad you will need to press the CTRL button if on a Microsoft Windows based computer or the Command button if on an Apple based computer. While these instructions should address the majority of users keep in mind your experience may vary and you should consult your computer's manual on how to right click on a touch pad if you have a question.

On the instruction "right-click" you will press and hold the appropriate button, then click on the link using the touch pad. Once you have completed the click on the touch pad you may release the button.

This tutorial will assume you are using a two-button mouse.

When you find the file in Resources you will right-click on the link. The language on your browser may vary but find the statement from the drop down menu that best matches:

Firefox: "Save link as..."

Internet Explorer: "Save target as..."

Safari: "Download linked file as..."

You will now be prompted to choose where to save your file. Find the location and then click Save. You can now go to that location to find your file.
