The International Consortium on Task-Based Language Teaching (ICTBLT) is a group of scholars who share common interests in the TBLT domain. The basic mission of the ICTBLT is to foster excellence in TBLT work—from theoretical, empirical, and practical perspectives—across the diverse contexts of language education worldwide. The ICTBLT consists of two interconnected groups, the Scientific Committee and the International Advisory Board, each with distinct roles and responsibilities.
1. The Scientific Committee:
Current members: John Norris (present chair), Martin Bygate, Kris Van den Branden
The principal activities of the Scientific Committee include the following:
• Solicit offers to host the biennial international conference on TBLT
• Coordinate the refereeing and selection of conference papers and colloquia
• Coordinate the selection and invitation of speakers
• Determine the academic content of the programme
• Identify and pursue sources of funding for the TBLT conference
• Draw on advice and involvement from the IAB as appropriate
• Create and maintain a website for the conference
• Select, invite, and confirm the appointment of members of the IAB
2. The International Advisory Board (IAB)
Current members: Geoff Brindley, Heidi Byrnes, Michael Long, Bernie Mohan, Teresa Pica, Ali Shehadeh, Machteld Verhelst
The principal activities of the International Advisory Board include the following:
• Provide advice and recommendations on the academic program of the International Conference on Task-Based Language Teaching
• Assist in reviewing proposal abstracts for the conference
• Develop additional opportunities for the exchange of ideas about TBLT
• Promote TBLT in appropriate public and private sectors
• Select a prize recipient for “The most promising TBLT work”, to be awarded every two years at the International Conference on TBLT
• Identify sources of funding and other support for research on TBLT
• Engage in other activities as proposed by the membership of the IAB
