UHUNIX2 to be retired
The current UHUNIX2 server (uhunix2.its.hawaii.edu) is scheduled to retire on October 27, 2009. The replacement server is UHUNIX (uhunix.hawaii.edu). Until UHUNIX2 is shut down, your files are available from either server so that you have time to assess the changes and make any necessary adjustments. Retirement of UHUNIX2 is necessary in order to replace old hardware that is no longer on maintenance and is expensive to power. Pine, now called Alpine, will be available on UHUNIX. For more information on the new UHUNIX server please visit: http://www.hawaii.edu/askus/1030 What has been left behind? Software that was previously available on UHUNIX2, and not available on UHUNIX includes: * The Sun licensed compilers (to save costs, they have been replaced with open-source compilers) * LISP, Prolog, Fortran (one or more of these may become available on UHUNIX in the future) * LaTeX (may become available on UHUNIX in the future) * SSH.com's scp (replaced with OpenSSH-based scp) * SPSS for UNIX (will not be installed due to minimal use) Also left behind is support for NIS groups. NIS has been replaced and the group feature is no longer supported. For those that use ssh to access a shell account, please note that since UHUNIX is a new host, you will be required to accept a new certificate the first time you access UHUNIX. If ssh is embedded in any scripts used to access UHUNIX, the script will not work until the UHUNIX certificate has been accepted. Please note that the scp provided by SSH.com will not connect to the ssh server on UHUNIX. The alternative is to use sftp. UHUNIX host name: * uhunix.hawaii.edu Note: There is no ".its" in the host name of the new UHUNIX server.
