There have been many media reports concerning malware that may cause a computer user to lose Internet connectivity on Monday, July 9, 2012.
This is about the DNS Changer malware which was reported earlier. A good writeup is posted here:
To check if your computer is infected, go to http://www.dns-ok.us which is run by the DNS Changer Working Group (DCWG). DCWG is working on clean up resulting from the malware.
If the page is green, you're in the clear. If it's red, your computer is infected.
Important: According to DCWG, you should not need to scan, make changes or download anything to tell whether your computer is infected.
If your computer is infected, go to the DCWG website http://www.dcwg.org/fix which has assembled tools to help with the cleanup.
If you need assistance, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 956-8883, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (800) 558-2669 toll free from the neighbor islands.
|UPDATE:||07/09/2012 07:31 AM: The DCWG website http://www.dns-ok.us is no longer active. To check if your computer is clean from DNS Changer malware, go to http://www.dcwg.org/detect/checking-osx-for-infections/ Click on one of the English sites. http://www.dns-ok.lu/ works.|
