Technology and Computing Services
Information Technology Services (ITS) provides a wide array of services to support the teaching, learning, administration, and research endeavors of the students, faculty, and staff of the UH community. ITS works closely with other offices across the system to meet the challenging and expanding computing and communications needs of the university.
Key technology initiatives include:
- Distance education programs developed at UH reach throughout the state and worldwide, offering new models of distributed learning.
- Supercomputing facilities at the Maui High Performance Computing Center house the 11th most powerful supercomputer in the world.
- The Kuali initiative, a national program to develop new open source administrative systems for higher education.

Emergency Text Message SystemFeb. 28, System — Students from all 10 University of Hawaii campuses are invited to register for the new emergency text message alert system.
New Wind Energy TurbineFeb. 27, Manoa — Saunders Hall will be the demonstration site for the PacWind SeaHawk vertical axis wind turbine in an effort toward workplace sustainability.

New Science and Technology Complex in Hilo
The University of Hawaii at Hilo continues work on the new Science and Technology Complex. The complex that will provide classrooms and research facilities to accommodate the increasing enrollment in the physical sciences, astronomy, chemistry, math, computer sciences, and biology programs.
"The needed classroom space and new state-of-the-art labs will help keep our education in science and technology on the leading edge in a rapidly changing world," says Hilo Chancellor Rose Tseng.
Completion of the complex is scheduled for the spring of 2009.
