Technology and Computing Services
Information Technology Services (ITS) provides a wide array of services to support the teaching, learning, administration, and research endeavors of the students, faculty, and staff of the UH community. ITS works closely with other offices across the system to meet the challenging and expanding computing and communications needs of the university.
Key technology initiatives include:
- Distance education programs developed at UH reach throughout the state and worldwide, offering new models of distributed learning.
- Supercomputing facilities at the Maui High Performance Computing Center house the 11th most powerful supercomputer in the world.
- The Kuali initiative, a national program to develop new open source administrative systems for higher education.

Emergency Text Message SystemFeb. 28, System — Students from all 10 University of Hawai‘i campuses are invited to register for the new emergency text message alert system.
New Wind Energy TurbineFeb. 27, Manoa — Saunders Hall will be the demonstration site for the PacWind SeaHawk vertical axis wind turbine in an effort toward workplace sustainability.
High Computing GrantsFeb. 7, Manoa — Five grants totaling more than $127,000 are awarded to students engaged in research at the Maui High Performance Computing Center.Spotlight
Athletics Marketing Wins
The University of Hawai‘i at Manoa‘s Athletics Department won the 2007 Best E-Marketing Award for the H-Mail newsletter, Office of Intercollegiate Athletics website and online ticket system. The department came in second in the Marketer of the Year category. The awards were given by the American Marketing Association, Hawai‘i chapter.
AMA Hawaii annually honors businesses, organizations and individuals for their outstanding marketing achievements implemented within the calendar year.
