On-line Thai-English Dictionaries

Lexitron : : Web-based Thai – English and English Thai dictionary developed by NECTEC (National Electronics and Computer Technology Center of Thailand). The program is also available for free download to use off-line. It can also be downloaded from here. Lexitron also provides sample sentences.

SEALANG Library Thai Dictionary : Web-based Thai – English Dictionary., primarily based on data developed by the Mary Haas Thai Dictionary Project (TDP, used with the permission of the U.S. Department of Education). Additional data are derived from standardized translation equivalents promulgated by the Royal Institute of Thailand (RI), and from NECTEC's LEXiTRON project (LEX). This dictionary is part of the SEAlang Library which was established in 2005, with primary funding from the U.S. Department of Education's TICFIA program, and matching funds from CRCL Inc. The Library provides language reference materials for Southeast Asia.

Longdo : : Multiple Bilingual Dictionary Search and Compilation Service English - Thai, Japanese - Thai, German - Thai, French - Thai Dictionary This is a “community contributed” dictionary, i.e. users help supply entries to the dictionary. Longdo is also based on various on-line dictionaries available.

Japanese-Thai Dictionary On-Line : Japanese - Thai and Thai- Japanese web-based dictionary for PC with Windows 2000 or XP or later version. Can also look up word by inputting Romaji. Vocabulary range: 30,000 items.

The Royal Institute Thai-Thai dictionary: (The official Thai dictionary): The main page of The Royal Institute (www.royin.go.th) also has some official guideline for recommended language use such as transliteration of foreign names and words into Thai, Romanization of Thai names, pronunciation of some problematic words, classifiers, and royal vocabulary.

Translation Program

Parsit ( ภาษิต ) Parsit is an English-to-Thai computer-based translation service on the Internet. English information on the Internet is transmitted to the system operated on syntactic and semantic knowledge base. "Parsit" translates English web pages into Thai web pages and then sends the result in the original layout back to users. Developed by Information Research and Development Division, National Electronics and Computer Technology Center ( Thailand) In Cooperation with NEC Corporation ( Japan).

Thai Text to Speech and Thai Voice Recognition Program

Vaja ( วาจา ) : A program that creates synthesized Thai speech with natural sounding accent and rhythm from text input. The system is designed to be able to analyze Thai text into appropriate phrases, words and pronunciations by using an intelligent natural language processing (NLP) algorithm. Developed by Information Research and Development Division, National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (Thailand)

สาลิกา Salika: A commercial Thai text-to-speech program for PC ( Windows 98/ME/2000/XP) by PPA Innovation (Price: 4,000 Baht + shipping). Reads Thai text in e-mail, MS-Word document, Web pages with "Human-like natural voice." Can read mixed language (Thai and English) text.

ISpeech : Thai automatic speech recognition (ASR) R&D project of Information Research and Development Division, National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (Thailand). There are 3 series of iSpeech: iSpeech-W - isolated word recognition; iSpeech-R - continuous speech recognition in restricted grammar and iSpeech-N - continuous speech recognition in free grammar. The iSpeech toolkit contains a special tool of Thai grapheme-to-phoneme conversion, which allows users to easily add or create their own pronunciation dictionaries just by writing a word list. The iSpeech toolkit has been implemented in both executation files and Windows DLL. It is available for download at NECTEC's Vaja website.

Useful Plug-ins to control tempo/pitch of audio files

Pacemaker : a free plug-in module for WinAmp player that controls the speed, tempo and pitch of the sound as it's playing. It can speed up or slow down the sound tempo without affecting the pitch. It can also change the pitch without affecting the tempo, and change the playback speed.
