The
Boy Who Stole the Stars
By Julian Wiles
Directed by Tamara Hunt
September 20, 21, 28 at
8pm
September 29 at 2pm
Fantasy and reality blend
together in this exciting play about discovering the mysteries of the
nighttime sky and the meaning of friendship. Share the adventures and
challenges of a young local boy who enlists the aid of his dying grandfather
to "count the stars" as his summer science project. A patchwork of visual
images enhances the production as constellations are revealed and a dragon
of stars challenges our hero to a battle. Opening night audiences will
enjoy a stargazing party on the Kennedy Theatre lawn following the
performance.

Lysistrata
By Aristophanes
Translated by Kenneth McLeish
Directed by Glenn Cannon
October 25, 26, 31, November
1, 2 at 8pm
November 3 at 2pm
The source may be Greek,
but the result will be anything but! Sex, war and politics are at their
funniest in this very modern and very risque treatment of Aristophanes'
timeless story about women finding a way to take charge in a world where
men call the shots. This production will contain explicit sexual references.

Kyôgen:
Laughter for All Time
Directed by Julie A. Iezzi
Training provided by master artists of the Okura School of Kyôgen
December 6, 7, 12, 13,
14 at 8pm
December 15 at 2pm
Perfect comedy fare for the
holiday season! Kyôgen is Japan's classical comic theatre, a tradition
as popular today as it was 600 years ago. Three short plays depict situational
comedies that will appeal to everyone--a story of a master and his conniving
servants desperate to get into their master's sake supply; a tale of a
mountain priest who plays a hilarious trick on an unwitting servant; and
a family farce about a demanding wife and mother-in-law, and a put-upon
husband who figures out a way to get back! Master artists from Japan will
be in residence to train UH students for this exciting project.

The
Robbers
By Friedrich Schiller
Translated by Robert David MacDonald
Directed by Markus Wessendorf
April 25, 26, May 1, 2,
3 at 8pm
May 4 at 2pm
The works of the great 18th-century
German writer Friedrich Schiller had a profound effect on all the arts
of his time. His poem "Ode to Joy" formed the climax of Beethoven's Ninth
Symphony, and Verdi later based four of his operas on Schiller's plays.
The Robbers, Schiller's first play, tells the dark story of two brothers
driven to extremesthe impetuous idealist Karl and his scheming brother
Franz. This contemporary production will use a new translation of the
play and will create a collage of contemporary references, various musical
styles, and barren landscapes to tell the story of a family destroyed.
