Drums & Drama: Mask Dance from
Sri Lanka

Kennedy Theatre Mainstage

Exquisitely costumed drummers create a complex rhythmic backdrop for the masked dancers, who present a wide array of human emotions and folkloric stories, including some that are hilarious.

This dance ensemble is organized by the East-West Center (EWC) in Honolulu, and the Institute for Development of Community Strengths (INDECOS) in Matara, Sri Lanka, which has accomplished miraculous recovery efforts in the years following the tsunami devastation. The event is co-sponsored by the UHM Department of Theatre and Dance.
