The Paper Bag Princess and Other Stories

By Robert Munsch, adapted by Irene N. Watts
Directed by Tamara Hunt

October 25 at 4pm and 7pm
October 26 at 2pm

The books of well known children's author Robert Munsch come to life as The Paper Bag Princess outwits the pompous dragon, Mud Puddle teases his playmate and her dog, Mortimer keeps everyone awake, and Angela's Airplane soars into the sky. Puppets of all shapes and sizes enhance this production, making this a delightful play experience for children eight and under, and for their families, too.

’Tis Pity She’s A Whore

By John Ford
Directed by Dennis Carroll

December 5, 6, 11, 12, 13 at 8pm
December 14 at 2pm

Shocking even today, ’Tis Pity She’s A Whore pulls out all the stops in its juxtapositions of farce, black comedy, violence, and riveting eroticism. Jacobean playwright John Ford (1586 - 1643) was the Brian De Palma of his day as he raided, parodied and deconstructed the Shakespearean canon. ’Tis Pity, with its incestuous lovers, is like Romeo and Juliet on speed, and the subplots of sexual intrigue, murder, and religious corruption explode in an all-stops-out climax. This will be the first Jacobean drama ever offered on Kennedy’s mainstage and is strongly recommended for mature audiences.

Betty’s Summer Vacation

By Christopher Durang
Directed by Guest Alumna Director Betty Burdick

February 6, 7, 12, 13, 14 at 8pm
February 15 at 2pm

All Betty wanted for her summer vacation was a little peace and quiet away from the city. What she ended up with was a handsome hunk on the make, a nice young woman who had been abused by her father, a quiet young man with hat boxes, an unexpected visit from her landlady, a flasher, and more! This very funny, very dark play takes a savage look at American pop culture, particularly our obsession with sensationalist television. Christopher Durang is one of America’s brightest contemporary playwrights, working for stage, screen and television.

Guest director Betty Burdick is a graduate of UHM’s MFA Directing program; she currently teaches at Hawaii Pacific University and Leeward Community College and has directed at Manoa Valley Theatre and Kumu Kahua Theatre.
