Hawaii Intranet Consortium Member Meeting: 22-23 January 2004

Members & Invitees Only
contact: clawson@usgs.gov

Hawaii Intranet Consortium logo The Hawaii Intranet Consortium (HIC) is a consortium of government organizations (primarily US DoD) in Hawaii that work together to leverage infrastructure and reduce overall costs. Strategies include maximizing local peering and sharing high-bandwidth links where appropriate.

Internet2 IPv6 Workshop: 24-25 January 2004

Registration required

Internet2 logoOver the course of this workshop we will design and set up a functioning IPv6 network. This network will be connected to the Internet2 IPv6 network, and thus to the rest of the global IPv6 network. We will have both external and internal routing configured. Using IPv6 transition tools, we will also gateway between the workshop IPv6 network and the global IPv4 internet.

It is our expectation that, after having experienced one workshop as a student, an attendee will be able to engineer IPv6 networks within his/her campus or gigaPoP, to explain IPv6 engineering concepts to peers, and, in some cases, to help teach or facilitate future IPv6 workshops.

Juniper Networks R&E Technical Seminar: 25 January 2004

Registration required
Contact: Faye Allen

Juniper Networks logoLearn about the new capabilities that make Juniper platforms the router of choice for the world's most advanced R&E networks. Join other R&E network engineers and architects at a full day technical seminar on Juniper's latest hardware and software technologies including the perfect campus edge box - the new M7i with built-in adaptive services module providing integrated ASIC-based NAT, stateful firewall, attack detection, IPsec and J-Flow accounting - and the newest JUNOS features such as prefix specific policers, logical and virtual routing, and IPv6 multicast.

I2 Routing WG Meeting: 25 January 2004

Open Meeting - No Registration
contact: lindahl@berkeley.edu

Dan Magorian, Director of Engineering and Operations, Production Network MidAtlantic Crossroads gigapop (MAX), will describe experiences implementing MLPS VPN-based Explicit Routing on the MAX network.

Abstract: Over the summer, MAX converted our Juniper-based network to 2547-based VPNs to create a separate routing instance for resale of ISP. This was inspired by Jt Techs presentations by Cisco and Juniper of work done for CalREN-2: http://routing.internet2.edu/wg-meetings/20020730-I2rwg-slides/
Why did we do this? Where are they appropriate? What are the pros and cons? Why do many many of the national nets use them? Why would you let MPLS onto your network? A not-too-bad war story of MAX's conversion and operating experience, followed by an open discussion of multiple routing instance configurations and issues.

APAN/TransPAC/ESCC/Internet2 Techs Workshop: 25-28 January 2004
