AIRPORT SHUTTLE TO WAIKIKI

Approx. Adult fare: 8.00-$10.00 (one-way) / $15.00-$18.00 (round-trip).

Airport Waikiki Express (airport to any hotel in Waikiki)
Two (2) bags per person (no charge) plus one (1) carry-on
After claiming bags, walk to median area outside of baggage claim and look for the yellow "Airport Shuttle" signs for the pickup location or staff wearing yellow uniform reading, "Authorized Airport Waikiki Shuttle" for assistance.

AIRPORT SHUTTLE TO UH MANOA

APAN Fellows can print a copy of this map to give to the shuttle driver for driving directions to get from the Airport to Hale Manoa or Hale Kuahine dorms. For other attendees staying at Lincoln Hall, please instruct the driver to go to the next buidling beyond Hale Kuahine to reach Lincoln Hall.

The cost is $15 one way, 24 hours notice, 2 bags max. Round Trip cost is $28 per person. If paying in advance, pay driver. Call one day in advance to schedule return trip. Forms of payment accepted are: cash, credit cards, and traveler's cheques.

Approximately $25.00-$28.00 one-way from the airport to Waikiki or East-West Center (UH) during non-rush hour period. Approximately $10.00-$12.00 one-way from Waikiki to East-West Center.

Waikiki (Kuhio Ave.) to University of Hawaii-Manoa:

From Kuhio Avenue heading away from Diamond Head, board the 4 Nuuanu-Dowsett or 4 Nuuanu-Pauoa Road. This bus will take you directly to the University of Hawaii-Manoa campus on University Avenue.

University to Waikiki:

Board the 4 University-Waikiki bus on University Avenue below Metcalf Street.

Buses run about 15-20 minutes apart during the day on weekdays and less frequent in the evenings and on weekends.

Approximate one-way travel time is 25 minutes.

Airport to Waikiki:

Board 19 or 20 Waikiki Beach and Hotels. First bus from the Airport to Waikiki is 4:52 a.m. on weekdays and 5:10 a.m. on weekends. The last bus leaving the Airport to Waikiki is 1:22 a.m. on weekdays and 12:18 a.m. on weekends.

Waikiki to Honolulu International Airport:

On Kuhio Avenue, Saratoga Road or Kalia Road heading away from Diamond Head, board 19 Airport-Hickam or 20 Airport-Pearlridge.

Buses run about 20 minutes apart during the day, and 30 minutes apart in the evenings.

Approximate travel time is 1 hour 10 minutes.

Driving Directions

Please note that traffic and finding parking on the University of Hawaii Manoa campus during morning rush hour can be difficult. It is highly recommended that meeting attendees use the TIP2008 shuttle service that will run between the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel and the East West Center each morning and afternoon on the main conference days. Visit the Joint Tech Workshop website for details about the shuttle schedule.

1. If driving, general directions and route maps are available at:
   • Honolulu International Aiport to University of Hawaii
   • Honolulu International Aiport to Sheraton Waikiki Hotel
   • Sheraton Waikiki Hotel to University of Hawaii
2. Once you are travelling North (Mauka) on University Avenue, turn right onto Dole Street.
3. You have basically two choices of parking as shown on the visitor parking map (see additional notes below):
   • The road leading to the main parking structure is located at the first right-hand turn onto Lower Campus Road. This lot is more likely to have a parking space, but is a longer walk to the conference site.
   • The alternative is to attempt to park in one of the far fewer visitor spaces on the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Upper Campus. If you wish to attempt parking on the upper campus, continue East on Dole Street then turn left onto East-West Road. If the visitor parking is full, there will be a sign at the parking attendant's kiosk indicating "Lot Full" and you'll need to turn around and head back to the parking structure.

PARKING

• Limited visitor parking is available on campus in the parking structure or designated visitor lots. Please be aware that upper campus visitor parking is at a premium and fill quickly.
• Visitor parking fee is $3/day, payable upon entry. Cash only. No validations.
• The visitor entrance to the main parking structure is via Lower Campus Road off Dole Street, just east of University Avenue. After parking in the structure, exit to Dole Street via the top floor of the structure, walk East on Dole Street, and turn North onto East-West Road. The Hawaii Imin International Conference Center (Jefferson Hall) is a short walk up East-West Road and is located past the Parking Attendant's kiosk.
• The visitor lot nearest to the Conference Center is located directly behind the Kennedy Theatre. Note that there is Faculty/Staff parking adjacent to this lot and cars without proper parking permits parked in this area or any other non-visitor zones will be cited. Please follow the signs carefully. If you are lucky enough to park in the upper campus visitor lot behind Kennedy Theatre, simply walk around to the front of the building and cross East-West Road to the Hawaii Imin International Conference Center (Jefferson Hall).
• Special Note: If you have a VIP parking pass, continue East on Dole Street then turn left onto East-West Road. Please stop at the parking attendant's kiosk on East-West Road and show your pass. You will be directed to the parking area. All other meeting attendees will not be allowed to park in front of the Hawaii Imin International Conference Center unless prior arrangement have been made.

Food

For days and times when food service is not provided at the conference site, there are a number of places that you can find food both on and off-campus. The offerings are quite numerous so we are working on a separate food page.

Network Access

• Wireless access 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g will be available throughout the Hawaii Imin International Conference Center for the duration of TIP2008.
• A limited number of internet accessible workstations and 10baseT docks for laptops will be available during regular conference hours.
• Attendees must provide their own wireless or ethernet cards since none will be available for rental or purchase.
• Internet access is available at both the Sheraton Waikiki and East-West Center Conference Housing facilities. Please contact the respective guest services for more details.

Electricity

• The voltage used is Hawaii is 120 volts, 50-60 Hz. Participants should plan to bring their own voltage converters if their power requirements differ from this North America standard.
• Please note that many of the meeting rooms including the plenary session will not have dedicated electrical outlets at each seat. Participants are asked to bring enough fully charged batteries to meet their needs. A limited number of recharging areas will be available throughout the conference center.

The majority of the TIP 2008 meetings will be held in the Hawaii Imin International Conference Center also known as Jefferson Hall which is located at the East West Center on the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus. Large meetings and plenary sessions will be held in the Keoni Auditorium. Smaller meetings and breakout sessions will be held on second floor or garden level. Meal and refreshment breaks will be on the garden level overlooking the Japanese Garden in back.
