Introduction
ELUNA 2008, the annual meeting of the Ex Libris Users of
North America, aims to offer Ex Libris customers and staff an opportunity to
share information, experiences, best practices, and works in progress in an
informal, collegial environment. Thought provoking content is encouraged to
insure an interesting and worthwhile program. Presentation proposals are
reviewed and selected by the ELUNA 2008 Conference Planning Committee.
Track Chairs/Co-chairs, who are members of the planning committee,
are the main point of contact for presenters who have questions. Track
chairs/co-chairs work closely with their presenters to meet deadlines, fulfill
responsibilities, address any changes needed, handle scheduling conflicts, and
otherwise help presenters prepare for their sessions.
How to Submit Your Presentation Proposal
The ELUNA 2008 Planning Committee is accepting proposals in
the following tracks:
ALEPH

The following will be taken into consideration when
choices have to be made among proposals:
Contribution to a well-rounded conference program
Clarity and focus of the proposal
Value to Ex Libris customers
Unique or special content; originality
Speaker's stated knowledge or experience regarding the topic
Note: If the planning committee receives a large number of
proposals, this may result in good proposals not being accepted due to the
limited number of session slots available. Presenters whose proposals are not
accepted are encouraged to consider presenting their topic as a poster session
(proposal submission deadline: April 30, 2008), investigating local/regional
meetings, or resubmitting next year.
Presenter Requirements
ACCEPTED SPEAKERS ONLY: please inform your
Track Chair(s) that you have read and
understand the
Speaker Agreement. Thank you!
A presenter is expected to:
Confirm with the Track Coordinator
attendance at the conference by the date required by the planning committee.
Present in the time slot assigned or work with the
Track Coordinator to resolve scheduling conflicts. For poster sessions, be
present in the poster session area at scheduled times.
Work with the Track Chair/Co-chair to focus or modify
a presentation when needed (e.g., if similar presentations are accepted,
chairs/co-chairs help to insure that content is complementary, and may ask speakers
to co-present).
Attend the Presenter/Moderator orientation at
the conference (if any), especially first-time presenters.
Start and end the session on time (with the help of the session moderator).
Use visuals that can be read in a large room, if appropriate.
Insure that screen shots are up-to-date.
Provide sufficient number of handouts for
distribution to all attendees at the session. Track chairs/co-chairs will let
presenters know the number of copies needed about three weeks before the
conference. Read the Handout Guidelines for more information.
Leave sufficient time to solicit and answer
questions from the audience (with the help of the session moderator).
Provide visual presentation and handout files, if
used, in electronic format so that they can become part of the conference
proceedings on the ELUNA website. Files may be emailed to Donna Hirst, Proceedings Coordinator
(donna-hirst@uiowa.edu).
Prominently display the presenters names,
affiliations, and contact information, version number and name of software
discussed, and date of preparation on handouts and materials to become part of
the proceedings.

Address an issue within the library and information services field.
Share information about Ex Libris products, services, and local
applications.
Describe how people have used and extended Ex Libris software to meet
their needs.
Teach and encourage the exchange of ideas.
Describe challenges and alternative work flows to help others.
Make constructive suggestions to improve upon the software and work

Presentation Content
Content is the responsibility of the presenter. Opinions
expressed by a presenter do not necessarily reflect the views of ELUNA or Ex
Libris LTD. Situations and applications described by presenters may vary from
library to library and over time.
Characteristics of the "Ideal" Presenter
Is clear, concise, accurate, and honest.
Indicates version numbers and software described.
Indicates when content may be time-sensitive, e.g.
features in development.
Refrains from disclosing information that is
confidential between a site and Ex Libris, e.g., contract terms including
pricing, contractual commitments, etc.
Is aware that the ELUNA conference is, in part, a joint
undertaking by ELUNA and Ex Libris, and that comments regarding competing
products may be inappropriate.
Is constructive when offering criticism.
Uses humor and/or sensitivity when expressing
strong convictions or addressing issues where there may be differing points of
view.
Understands that while presentation materials,
e.g. slides and handouts, should be designed to enhance the presenters
session at the conference, it may also be desirable to design them so that they
are meaningful when viewed on the Internet at a later date.
Is a good listener.
Responds in a timely way to all preparatory and
final presenter stages: proposal, Track Coordinators questions or requests
for revisions to presentations, rehearsals and attendance at presenters
orientation session (if any), delivery of presentation on-site on time, provision
of handouts for session attendees, and submission of session materials for the
conference proceedings (electronic).
