- The SEC persuaded the Chancellor to make the Senate chair a member of the Manoa Executive Team (MET).
- The SEC protested the lack of consultation by the President's office on the new ARL (formerly UARC) and Chair Chin presented testimony at the BOR to that effect.
- The SEC proposed a resolution on Open Records at BOR meetings that was passed by the Senate and presented by Chair Chin as testimony at the BOR meeting where the BOR recommitted to open records at all future BOR meetings.
- The SEC organized Senate volunteers at the Manoa Move-In where they observed some inefficiencies that resulted in waiting times of over an hour at certain lines. The OVCS will revamp Manoa Move-In for Fall 2008.
- The SEC hired a student programmer to help Chair Chin write electronic elections software with ranked voting. The SEC with help from CFS proposed a resolution to modify the Rules of Order's election procedures to allow ranked voting with counting by the Meek method of the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system. CFS used the software with only minor hiccups to successfully elect senators and SEC members. The A&S Senate borrowed the software to run elections for its A&S Executive Committee and its Program and Curriculum Committee (PCC).
- The SEC persuaded VPAPP Linda Johnsrud to modify the proposed UH System Strategic Plan Outcomes and Measures to include more outcomes/measures related to graduate education and research.
- The SEC persuaded the Chancellor to use CAB as a faculty budget advisory committee.
- The SEC started tenure/promotion simplification discussions with the OVCGRE and passed this on to CPM.
- The SEC protested to the Chancellor about the lack of faculty consultation in the replacement of the interim VC for International Programs.
- The SEC persuaded the OVCAA to use external reviewers for COPR and passed this on to CAPP.
- The SEC persuaded the Chancellor to sign the revised Charter passed by the Senate last year.
- The SEC worked with the OVCAA to hire two faculty specialists to staff the new Manoa Assessment Office (MOA).
- The SEC interviewed candidates and gave recommendations to the Chancellor on 3 executive searches: VCAA, Dean of JABSOM and Dean of SOHK.
- The SEC worked with VCS Francisco Hernandez to plan a joint SEC, CAPP and CSA subcommittee that will work with OVCS to work on enrollment policies in support of an enrollment management plan.
- The SEC organized a meeting with the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellors, SEC and Senate Standing Committee Chairs to discuss shared governance. The meeting resulted in a renewed commitment to shared governance by all parties including a catalog of all UHM committees/task forces/ etc., a commitment to better communications from administration to faculty and vice-versa, continued budget transparency on the UHM website, and an annual planning meeting in early August to set common goals and identify important initiatives that administration and faculty should work together to achieve during the academic year.
