Motion to Change Appointments to the General Education Committee and Related Boards
The current policy states that members of the GEC and related Boards will be recommended by the Committee on Faculty Service and appointed by the Mānoa Faculty Senate. [Faculty Governance of University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa General Education, 12/06/2000, pages 2, 4, 5, and 6.] http://www.hawaii.edu/gened/gened_governance.pdf
The GEC recommends changing the language of the Faculty Governance document to require that members of the GEC and related Boards be appointed by the Mānoa Faculty Senate Executive Committee (SEC), rather than the Mānoa Faculty Senate. Because the SEC meets weekly, this change will expedite filling vacancies on a more timely basis. This is already the current practice during summer session, when the SEC acts for the Mānoa Faculty Senate. Historically, all recommended appointments to the GEC and related Boards have been approved by the Mānoa Faculty Senate after being introduced by the SEC.
