RESOLUTION TO APPROVE A GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN DISASTER MANAGEMENT AND HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE
WHEREAS, the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa provides a logical focal point for the development of an Asia Pacific focused disaster reduction research, education and institutional capacity building program; and
WHEREAS, the establishment of a Graduate Certificate Program in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (DMHA) housed within the Department of Urban and Regional Planning will create a locus for tying together resources from across the Mānoa campus into a theme based interdisciplinary certificate program, and
WHEREAS, faculty associated with DMHA from at least eight different departments and five colleges currently teach courses and are available to work with DMHA students on projects aimed at improving hazard and disaster mitigation and response in the Asia and Pacific region, and
WHEREAS, the Graduate Certificate Program in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance will further contribute to the University’s strong reputation for service and outreach in the area of disaster management by training community professionals as well as matriculated graduate students, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, the Mānoa Faculty Senate approves the Graduate Certificate Program in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance.
