RESOLUTION HONORING THE MEMORY OF AVIS MORIGAWARA
WHEREAS: Avis Morigawara was employed by the University of Hawaiʻi for 31 years and passed away on November 17, 2012, and
WHEREAS: Avis Morigawara for the last 11 years was the assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and throughout her years at UH epitomized the Aloha spirit, helping countless administrators, faculty, staff, students and community members, and
WHEREAS: Avis Morigawara was a lifelong scholar of Japan earning a B.A. and M.A. in Asian Studies at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, and
WHEREAS: Avis Morigawara is survived by husband, George, son, Kai, daughter Mika Mitsuyoshi and parents, Fusae and Harold Sawada.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That the Mānoa Faculty Senate gratefully honors the lifelong work of our friend and colleague, Avis Morigawara, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Mānoa Faculty Senate encourages support of the Avis Morigawara Scholarship Fund for Japanese Studies established in her honor by the University of Hawaiʻi Foundation.
