Communicate with the Senate

RESOLUTION ON PHASE II REORGANIZATION OF THE DEPARTMENTS, COUNTIES, AND UNITS OF THE COLLEGE OF TROPICAL AGRICULTURE AND HUMAN RESOURCES (CTAHR)

WHEREAS the reorganization of the existing eleven departments at CTAHR into six consolidated academic departments is a response to long-term budget cuts and declining resources; and

WHEREAS the six new departments will now have a critical mass of faculty with expertise to address many issues; and

WHEREAS each department will contain an undergraduate degree program, a research program that has basic and applied research activities that actively address state needs; an extension outreach program that has faculty providing support to community groups, community associations, and government agencies, and will contribute to international education/research; and

WHEREAS the faculty of CTAHR, which has been involved in the reorganization plans over a period of three years through workshops and retreats, has been allowed to choose which unit it wishes to be aligned with; and

WHEREAS the Faculty Senate of CTAHR voted 18-0 on May 7,1999 to support the reorganization plan; and

WHEREAS on April 23, 1999, the University of Hawai'i Board of Regents approved Phase I, the reorganization of the administrative structure of CTAHR; and

WHEREAS the Faculty Senate Committee on Academic Policy and Planning has reviewed and endorsed the proposed Phase II reorganization of CTAHR; now

Therefore, be it RESOLVED that the Manoa Faculty Senate recommends the approval of the Phase II reorganization of the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources.
