Communicate with the Senate
WHEREAS the proposed transfer of SSRI into the College of Social Sciences is a response to severe budget cuts and the loss of faculty positions; and
WHEREAS SSRI will now have greater access to the research skills of the faculty, staff, and students of College of Social Sciences; and
WHEREAS the College of Social Sciences's research capacity will be enhanced by SSRI's research management capability and its ties with other instructional and research units within the UH system; and,
WHEREAS SSRI will continue to foster interdisciplinary and collaborative research involving faculty and disciplines outside the College of Social Sciences, and will continue to provide administrative and fiscal support to such entities; and,
WHEREAS SSRI will continue to address critical social, environmental, and economic problems in Hawaii and the Asia-Pacific region; and
WHEREAS this transfer will not entail any additional funding or positions and would not have an impact on existing positions; and
WHEREAS this transfer was approved by the chairs and directors of the College of Social Sciences and the faculty and staff of SSRI; and
WHEREAS the Faculty Senate Committee on Academic Policy and Planning has reviewed and endorsed the proposed transfer of SSRI to the College of Social Sciences; now
Therefore, be it RESOLVED that the Manoa Faculty Senate recommends the approval of the transfer of the Social Sciences Research Institute (SSRI) to the College of Social Sciences.
