Communicate with the Senate

RESOLUTION: CRDG and UAP REORGANIZATION

A Resolution from CAPP Regarding the Proposed Transfer of the Curriculum Research & Development Group/Lab School to the College of Education and the Proposed Establishment of the Center on Disability Studies/University Affiliated Studies as a unit of the College of Education

WHEREAS, the mission of the College of Education (COE) is to prepare and provide ongoing professional development of teachers, administrators, counselors and related professionals at the undergraduate and graduate levels; to generate, synthesize and apply knowledge in education and related fields through teaching, research and other scholarly activities; and to provide service and support to the local, national and global educational and related communities; and,

WHEREAS, the mission of the Curriculum Research & Development Group (CDRG) is to create theories of knowledge, instructional curriculum design, teacher education and evaluation; to design, develop, and evaluate curricula based on these theories, first in the Laboratory School and later in cooperating schools; and to publish instructional materials, develop applicable teaching practices, and present in-service teacher education programs for schools; and,

WHEREAS, the mission of the Center on Disability Studies/University Affiliated Programs (CDS/UAP) is to support the quality of life, community inclusion, and self-determination of all persons with disabilities and their families through the provision of interdisciplinary training, service, research, demonstration, evaluation, and dissemination activities, and,

WHEREAS, the COE, CDRG, and CDS/UAP have a close collaborative relationship; and,

WHEREAS, the COE Faculty Senate, the faculty and staff of CDRG, and the director of UAP have voted overwhelmingly in favor of the proposed reorganization; now

Therefore, be it RESOLVED that the Manoa Faculty Senate recommends the approval of Proposed Transfer of the Curriculum Research & Development Group/Lab School to the College of Education and the Proposed Establishment of the Center on Disability Studies/University Affiliated Studies as a unit of the College of Education.
