Communicate with the Senate

Resolution relating to the proposal for a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa

WHEREAS, the UH Administration supports the establishment of a Naval ROTC program, and

WHEREAS, the UH Administration has committed itself to supplying space for the program and $50,000 in secretarial/clerical support, and

WHEREAS, the existing Army ROTC and Air Force ROTC are successful, award- winning programs reporting enrollments of about 150 students in each of their programs annually, and

WHEREAS, the Naval ROTC program would award scholarship funds to qualified students to support their educational needs, and

WHEREAS, ROTC students complete regular university degrees at UH with additional coursework required and taught by naval officers (level I and level II), and

WHEREAS, there seems to be a logical need for a Naval ROTC program in Hawaii;

BE IT RESOLVED that the Manoa Faculty Senate recommends the establishment of a Naval ROTC program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
