Chairman Tom Schroeder called the meeting to order about 3:13 p.m. with all members present: Hilgers, Uchida, Dator, Bley-Vroman, Lukas and Ramsey. At 4:30 p.m. the meeting adjourned to meet with Chancellor Englert until about 6 p.m.
1.The minutes of the September 20th meeting were approved.
2.Chairman Schroeder discussed various meetings: MLT, UCP, MME and the upcoming meeting with Dennis Jones.
3.The request from the Library Committee for nominees was referred to CFS.
4.The request from Frank Perkins, for nominees to a committee for ethics in research, was referred to CFS.
5.Each liaison reported on his/her standing committees.
6.The SEC discussed the agenda for the Congress and Senate meetings on October 20, 2004. It is likely that UHM's "mission clarification" will be the main topic of the Congress (a draft of that, by Chancellor Englert, has been circulating among the other chancellors and being revised with their input).
7.The 4:30 p.m. meeting with Chancellor Englert reviewed the main task forces and working groups that have been organized by the Chancellor. The newly released reorganization proposal was distributed and extensively discussed. The SEC asked for a summary of the "top levels".
