Manoa Faculty Senate Executive Committee Minutes of January 31, 2005

Senate Chairman Tom Schroeder convened the meeting about 3 p.m., with everyone present, to review with VPR Gaines the Kakaako/JABSOM report.

The SEC made one decision. It will provide written comment on the Kakaako/JABSOM report to Vice President Gaines, incorporating the preliminary responses of two standing committees (CAB and CAPP) as well as information about faculty interest in several affected units (JABSOM, nursing, cancer research, Pacific Biosciences, etc). Chairman Schroeder will contact affected units for an efficient survey of faculty attitudes about the Kakaako/JABSOM report's recommendations.

The minutes for Jan. 24 were edited and approved.

Liaison reports:

1. COA had nothing to report. However, under new business Dator announced that COA might draft a policy proposal to require faculty to accommodate athletic student's scheduling needs.
2. CAB is searching for a meeting time.
3. CSA had no meeting this month.
4. CFS will meet Feb. 1.
5. GEC is interested in a by-laws change governing appointments to its boards.
6. COR will meet Feb. 2.
7. CAPP has a full schedule; it will be drafting a preliminary response to the Kakaako/JABSOM report on Feb. 2 and also reviewing an Honors College proposal.

Chairman Schroeder reported by email, and amplified his report in person.
