The Committee reviewed the report from the Subcommittee on Admissions regarding E.5.209.
VALUES DOCUMENT
A Values document was submitted by the Subcommittee on Admissions and is to be considered a work in progress.
INTERDISCIPLINARY PHD
A memorandum from Peter Garrod and Ken Tokuno was circulated to the Committee. The Committee reiterated its opposition to the proposal.
CLASS PARTICIPATION GRADES
The Committee's consensus was that any policy on class participation would be inappropriate and an intrusion on academic freedom.
ELECTION OF AN INTERIM CHAIR
The Committee decided not to elect an interim chair. The current chair remains in office until the fall of 2006.
TUITION CHARGE BY THE HOUR
Tuition charge by the hour would negatively impact foreign students as well as raise tuition rates even higher. An impact statement would be needed to fully consider such a change in tuition charges.
MINOR/CERTIFICATE DESCRIPTIONS
The Committee felt that definitions of majors and certificates have already been established. The issue of minors should be resolved at the departmental level. Purpose statements would not be useful if generated.
