Vice-Chair J. Tiles called the meeting to order at 3 pm, with Kent, Lampe, Ramsey, Rutter, and Tiles present. Chair Bley-Vroman was in Vietnam. The SEC then met with a candidate for VCSA.
Standard Items: No minutes were reviewed. Vice-Chair Tiles described a state Senate meeting about a VPSA resolution, which he and Bley-Vroman attended. He also reported on an ACCFSC meeting. At the ACCFSC meeting, VPAPP Johnsrud discussed a tuition expenditure policy that may go to the Board of Regents soon. Committee liaisons were asked to request annual committee reports from their respective committees, due May 1.
The SEC discussed a classified research memo to VPR Gaines.
The SEC drafted a tentative agenda for the May senate meeting. Most items come from committees, and one SenatorÕs resolution may come from the floor.
The SEC consulted with VC Smatresk about tuition expenditure policies being moved forward by VPAPP Johnsrud. Smatresk warmly endorsed the current proposal as thoughtful and the result of careful consultation with all campuses. Later, the SEC discussed the issues further and requested Ramsey to draft a resolution calling for flexibility in the management of ManoaÕs financial resources.
Lampe described one interview with a VPAPP candidate, which had been attended by him and Staff. The candidate was Amanda Goldberg from the Kansas system, a biostatistician educated at San Diego State University.
