Mānoa Faculty Senate Executive Committee
Minutes of November 3, 2008
Mānoa Faculty Senate Executive Committee
Monday – Nov 03, 2008; Hawai'i Hall 208
Present: Wakayama, Crookes, Hilgers, Ross, Tiles, Crosby
Absent: (traveling) Keil
3:00 SEC meeting
1) Minutes of previous meeting were approved.
2) Chair's Report
Discussion of a change at the Cancer Research Center. (The current director has
resigned.) SEC and Faculty Senate have not been involved in the run-up to
administrative action concerning this unit. SEC will seek details from the
Chancellor of the administration’s perspective on this matter.
The “process committee” (on which the SEC Chair sits) met again during the past week (it meets weekly) and reviewed a report on the University of Washington’s administrative changes similar to the UHM A&S reorg.
3) FAR
There was discussion of administrative matters concerning the Faculty Athletics Representative.
4) New Senator for School of Law
One (and only) one faculty member is willing to stand as Senator for the School of Law. SEC decided that there is no need to hold a special election, accordingly, and simply to appoint this individual unopposed. Taking up the implied topic of lack of candidates for Faculty Senate, SEC decided to propose to Committee on Faculty Service that it look into using an opt out rather than opt in procedure in connection with the new electronic faculty senator election process.
Adjourned 4:15 pmRespectfully submitted,
Graham Crookes
