Mānoa Faculty Senate Committee on Athletics Minutes of October 27, 2009

Attendees: Rosanne Harrigan, Julia Petriarche, Stewart Curry, Bob Cooney, Halina Zaleski

I.              Completion of questionnaires by CoA

a.       A discussion of the history of  the two existing committees, Athletic Advisory Board and the CoA took place

b.      Bob Cooney Moved and Stewart Curry seconded a motion to eliminate the Athletic Advisory Board and move/consolidate any functions it had to the CoA.  The motion was passed unanimously and will be communicated to the SEC.

II.                 Role of Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR)

a.       Position in the Chancellor’s office (1/2 time 11 month appointment)

b.      Nominee to come from the CoA

c.       Confusion over who this individual represents

d.      Need to assert the role of this individual as a representative of the faculty.

III.               Economics of Athletics

a.       CoA will be provided with all relevant financial information relating to athletics prior to the next meeting

b.      Jim Donovan will be requested to attend and present a brief overview of the financial situation of Athletics and answer questions.

IV.              Future meetings will take place on the third Tuesday of the month @ 12:30 in Hawaii Hall 208
