Retrenchment
4 Deans were asked to come up with Retrenchment lists.
4 Meda Chesney-Lind will be emailing materials to read on retrenchment. She reported that none of the institutions to which UH is compared is under retrenchment, though there have been severe budget cuts and furloughs. Also for review is http://www.aaup.org/AAUP/pubsres/policydocs/contents/RIR.htm
4 Discussed is that declaration of fiscal exigency needs to be made in order for retrenchment to occur. But it has not been declared.
4 Action items
o Learn as much as we can on retrenchment:
§ Sources: BOR and UHPA Contract, AAUP, materials from Meda
§ To consider:
· What it is
· What it will do
· How it will affect us
· Is it the solution?
§ Martin to request an audience with chancellor’s office/VCAA to attend CPM meeting(s).
Faculty Handbook
Need to revisit from last year.
Work Load
Issues of 3 to 3 workload were discussed. Will revisit 699 independent study and its non-standing as a course. Tuition dollars? Service (i.e. Plan B advising)? What is the true cost of our service?
Dossier Simplification
Andrea Bartlett, former Chair, is willing to continue to work with the committee on this work.
Election of Chair
Those present elected Thanh Truc Nguyen as Chair of the CPM. Vice chair will be elected at a later meeting when more committee members are able to participate.
