| 11/13/2012 | Faculty Volunteers Needed for Information Literacy Working Group Members of the UHM General Education Committee (GEC) invite you to join the Information Literacy Working Group. The GEC has been tasked by the Manoa Faculty Senate with reviewing how information literacy is being taught across the curriculum (Issue #17.13). Please contact GEC chair Dore Minatodani at dorem@hawaii.edu if you have any questions about the working group. Open Access Week (October 22 - 26) Along with members of the academic and research community worldwide, the University of Hawaii at Manoa will celebrate Open Access Week beginning October 22, 2012. This is particularly significant this year because in March 2012 our campus adopted an Open Access Policy, following the Manoa Faculty Senate Resolution in December 2010 proposing its establishment. Among the week’s activities, presentations on implementing the policy will be offered at the Center for Teaching Excellence. The first presentation at 12:00 pm on October 23rd will be directed toward graduate students; the second at 12:00pm on October 25th will be directed toward faculty. There will be food and giveaways at both events. Please attend and learn how you can make your research and scholarship openly accessible to students, scholars, and researchers around the world. |
| 1/11/2013 | WASC Draft Handbook on Accreditation WASC has been working on a revision of their Handbook of Accreditation for a while. They have just released a draft of the 2013 Handbook for a final round of comments. The draft 2013 Handbook includes, among other things, the updated Core Commitments and Standards and the revised Institutional Review Process. Comments may be submitted directly to WASC through the website noted above. All feedback must be received by January 11, 2013. The WASC Commission will review feedback at both their November 7-9, 2012 retreat and their February 20-22, 2013 meeting. The final 2013 Handbook of Accreditation will be approved at the February 20-22, 2013 Commission meeting. |

Senate Speical Committee on Accountability According to the first "Notice on Informational Briefing," "the purpose of this briefing is to review the oversight, accountability, and transparency of the operational and financial management of the University of Hawaii System, including but not limited to the University of Manoa Athletics Department." The first Informational Briefing will be held on Monday, 9/24/2012 at 1:00 pm in State Capitol Conference Room 211. According to the second "Notice on Informational Briefing","Following up on the Committee's September 24th informational briefing regarding the oversight, accountability, and transparency of the operational and financial management of the University of Hawaii System, including but not limited to the University of Manoa Athletics Department." The second hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 1:00 PM in State Capitol Conference Room 211. |
