May 21, 2012 2:08 PM | Workload is OK. I see zero support for faculty development of governance skills, and less than zero on rewarding participation in governance work. It's negatively valued.
May 19, 2012 7:47 PM | Workload in my College (2-3) is an issue; I have never been given any training in "governance skills"; I wonder what rewards are given for "participation in governance work: I suppose it counts toward the service part of a tenure or promotion case, but we all know how little that is too often worth.
May 14, 2012 1:20 PM | No release time for committee chairs except for the SEC. Workload adjustments occur at the Dean's level, the Senate works above that level, so there needs to be some communication from the UHM administration to notify Deans/Directors that they have Chairs doing important work. I think the Senate would be more productive if the Chairs had release time.
May 7, 2012 8:19 AM | There are no rewards for participating in governance. If anything, we are penalized during the promotion process.
Apr 27, 2012 8:35 PM | This is not well discussed across the campus, some units are much better than others and it is hard to know what is really coming from the VCAA or from a zealous Dean.
