Choral Music

At the completion of this program, the student is prepared to teach solo vocal music, ensemble, and chorus in grades 7 through 12. Coursework includes vocal performance, music theory, music history, and student teaching.

Instrumental Music

At the completion of this program, the student is prepared to teach instrumental music (band, orchestra) in grades 7 through 12. Coursework includes performance on a major instrument, methods classes on all band and orchestra instruments, music theory, music history, and student teaching.

Coursework emphasizes performance on a major instrument, teaching guitar and `ukulele, world music, music appreciation, music technology, music theory, music history and student teaching.

*The seven-semester ensemble requirement may be divided between two large ensembles. The change from one ensemble to the other should take place at the end of the sophomore year, and only with the approval of the music education faculty. Students must inform the music education faculty of their progress in fulfilling the seven semester requirement. One semester of 414 and 419 is compulsory.
