2011 marks the 90th birthday of the late Astor Piazzolla, Argentina's premier composer of nuevo tango.
To celebrate, violinist and UH instructor Iggy Jang is bringing to the islands award-winning and critically acclaimed performers of the genre to perform beloved Tangos and Milongas.
Pianist and arranger Alfredo Minetti, PhD, will introduce the different elements in the art of the Tango: the dance, the culture, the bandoneon, the language, the music, through demonstrations, musical numbers and brief lectures. From Osvaldo Pugliese to Astor Piazzolla, be ready for an enchanted afternoon.
Joining Alfredo Minetti in the presentation are Tony-award dancers Fernanda Ghi & Guillermo Merlo, Grammy-award winning bandoneon player Raul Jaurena, bassist John Gallagher, guitarist Jeff Peterson, and violinist Iggy Jang.

This semester's Opera Workshop in Concert features selections from Mozart's COSI FAN TUTTE (They're All Like That), including the entire Act I and several scenes from Act III in English (with the exception of 3 arias in Italian), with multiple casting - two Fiordiligis, four Dorabellas, two Despinas, four Ferrandos, and one each Guglielmo and Don Alfonso.

Shake That Little Foot!
Please join the the University Chorus and Hawaiian Chorus for an uplifting evening of choral music! The University Chorus will perform selections from around the globe, including traditional music from Japan, Africa, New Zealand, and Canada, as well as a mountain frolic. The concert will be opened by the UH Hawaiian Chorus, directed by Nola Nahulu, which will perform mele pana (place name songs).

The Road Home
Inspired by Stephen Paulus' moving setting of "The Road Home," the UH Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will perform works by Duruflé, Schumann, Copland, as well as gospel, operetta, music from Ireland, Japan, Equador, and more. The Contemporary Music Ensemble presents an evening of music by Hawaii composers. On the program are works by three UH-Manoa faculty members: Donald Reid Womack's An Infinite Moment for violin and piano; Jon Magnussen's Dances Ebb, Dances Flow for clarinet, violin, piano and cello; and professor emeritus Neil McKay's Suite of Miniatures for clarinet and percussion. Also featured is the piano music of Maui-based composer Robert Pollock. The ensemble will also perform works by student composers Doug McCulloch and Kevin Tsunoda.
