Jason Byerlotzer is a Lecturer of Trombone at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Jason is currently the Principal Trombonist for the Honolulu Symphony, a position he has held since 2008. He is the low brass instructor at the Punahou School and teaches extensively in Honolulu. Jason performs chamber music as a member of the Honolulu Brass Quintet, a group he joined in the fall of 2009. Previously, Jason held positions with the Colorado Springs Symphony, the San Antonio Symphony, and the Cleveland Opera.
Jason received his Bachelor of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and his Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music. In addition, Jason attended University of Texas at Austin. His primary teachers are: Per Brevig, Mark Lawrence, and Donald Knaub. Jason spent many summers as a student at the Aspen Music Festival. While at Aspen, Jason performed frequently with the Cooper Street Brass Quintet.
Jason completed an MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio in the summer of 2006.
