Stephen Dinion
Lecturer in Percussion
Hawaii Symphony timpanist and percussionist Stephen Dinion studied with Michael Rosen at Oberlin, and with Alan Abel (Philadelphia Orchestra) at Temple University. He has attended masterclasses with timpanists Cloyd Duff (Cleveland Orchestra) and Fred Hinger (Philadelphia Orchestra), studied with percussionists Michael Bookspan (Philadelphia Orchestra), Doug Howard (Dallas Symphony) and Thomas Stubbs (St. Louis Symphony), and worked with violinist and master teacher Burton Kaplan.
Steve is a founding member of the local contemporary chamber music ensemble Terra Nova. He has also performed with the Honolulu Percussion Quartet, the Honolulu Marimba Band, Chamber Music Hawaii, Tau Dance Theater, Lutheran Church of Honolulu’s Bach Chamber Orchestra, and Central Union Church’s Sinfonia. He has coached percussion ensembles for the Hawaii Youth Symphony and the Niu Valley Middle School summer programs, and given clinics throughout Oahu.
