Katherine McQuiston

Assistant Professor of Musicology

Dr. McQuiston earned her Ph.D. at Columbia University in 2005. Music in film is her primary research area, particularly music in the films of Stanley Kubrick, soundtracks that make use of pre-existing art music, and music-cinematic topics across films.

Her article, “Value, Violence, and Music Recognized: A Clockwork Orange as Musicology” appears in the anthology Stanley Kubrick: Essays on His Films and Legacy (McFarland & Co., 2008). She served on the advisory board and wrote a section on music in film for the new edition of Music in Western Civilization (Schirmer, 2009), a leading music history and appreciation textbook.

Dr. McQuiston has been invited to present her research at conferences in New York, Los Angeles, and London, and has authored reviews for Current Musicology.
