Rachel Samet

Assistant Professor of Music
Rachel Samet conducts the University Concert Choir, University Chamber Singers, and University Chorus. Frequently sought after as a clinician and adjudicator, she works with choirs from all over the United States. Her dynamic rehearsal style and creative programs engage both singers and audiences alike.
Dr. Samet enjoys collaboration with orchestras and various musical organizations. She prepared the Chamber Singers to perform with the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra, including Orff’s Carmina Burana, Duruflé’s Requiem and Fauré’s Requiem. While teaching at the University of Colorado at Boulder, she prepared the Collegiate Chorale to perform Benjamin Britten's War Requiem under the baton of Marin Alsop, and conducted the ensemble at the American Music Research Center's International Musicological Symposium: Nadia Boulanger and American Music.
Equally at home in the world of theater, Dr. Samet has served as musical director for numerous stage productions, including Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors for the Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts in Colorado and I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change! for the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor in Maine.
Dr. Samet serves on the National Board of the National Collegiate Choral Organization and as Chair of Repertoire and Standards for College and University Choirs for the Hawaii American Choral Directors Association. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting and Literature from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Boston University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance from Oberlin College.
