UH Medical Student Wins Philippine Research Award
University of Hawai'i student, Jared David Acoba, will receive the Annual Research Award sponsored by the Philippine Medical Association of Hawai'i and Pharmacare. His work "The Histology and Stage of Lung Tumors among Filipinos in Hawai'i" will be presented at the Association's annual meeting May 30, at the Turtle Bay Hilton.
Acoba is a second year medical student at the UH John A. Burns School of Medicine. He holds a bachelor's degree in molecular and cell biology and genetics from the University of California at Berkeley.
The competition is in its first year and was designed by the medical association to stimulate original studies on the health issues unique to the immigrant and U.S.born Filipino population in Hawai'i. A cash prize is awarded by Pharmacare, a home health agency prominent in the state. Entry forms for the Year 2000 can be obtained by contacting Dr. Theresa Danao-Camara at 522-3863.
