Hawai'i native and nationally recognized scholar Franklin Odo will be Honolulu this week. His talk, "The Smithsonian Institute and Asian Pacific Americans: Representation and Resources" is scheduled:

The talk is part of an invitation-only reception, but it is open to the media. Interviews (Dr. Odo will arrive Wednesday, Aug. 6) may be arranged by calling Sandy Aizawa at 956-8086. Franklin Odo is on leave from UH Manoa to serve as assistant to the provost for Asian and Pacific American research and publication at the Smithsonian Institute. A respected scholar and historian on the Japanese American experience in Hawai'i, he is the former director and chair of the UHM Department of Ethnic Studies and is the author of No Sword to Bury; No Flag to Burn: the Japanese American VVV in Hawai'i (due out in 1997) and A Pictorial History of the Japanese in Hawai'i, 18851924. The reception is hosted by the Department of Ethnic Studies, Student Excellence Equity and Diversity Program, UH Commission on Diversity and the Hawai'i Community Foundation. |
